Year one went fast!

A full year has past since the last post. It's amazing how time flies. I also clearly need to be better about keeping this updated. But here are a few lab highlights from the past year:

• Dr. Bassing developed and taught two new courses at MSU: Introduction the Structured Decision Making (Spring 2025) and Quantitative Methods in Ecology (Fall 2025)
• Incoming MSc student, Chase Dart, completed his first field season on the Idaho Wolf Project. Chase spent three months (Summer 2025) hiking and howling across northern and central Idaho in search of wolves. The genetic samples collected through this work will contribute to his MSc thesis
• Ashlyn Hemmah and Chase Dart officially started as MSc students in the Bassing Lab (Fall 2025). Ashlyn is studying black-tailed prairie dog ecology in collaboration with the Turner Institute for Ecoagriculture and Chase is studying group dynamics of wolves in collaboration with the University of Idaho and U.S. Geological Survey. Welcome to the lab, Ashlyn and Chase!
• Dr. Bassing presented research at The Wildlife Society's 2025 conference in Edmonton, Alberta (Oct. 2025), and at the Gordon Research Conference: Predator-Prey Interactions in Barga, Italy (Jan. 2026) 
• Chase presented a poster about his proposed research at the Montana Chapter of The Wildlife Society's 2026 Meeting in Missoula, MT (Feb. 2026)
