Quantitative Ecology &
Wildlife Conservation

Welcome to the Bassing Lab, based in the Department of Ecology at Montana State University in Bozeman, MT! Our mission is to conduct rigorous science that enhances our understanding of animal behavior and population dynamics while informing conservation and management. We do this by conducting field work, applying quantitative methods to a variety of datasets, and working closely with project collaborators to answer both applied and basic questions in ecology. Our research interests are diverse but generally fall within several themes:
  • Carnivore behavior and conservation
  • Patterns and processes of species interactions
  • Effects of human activity on wildlife populations & communities
  • Methods for wildlife monitoring & management
